2010: hot again!
Date: 12-01-2011The year 2010 equals the world's warmest year on record, said the Washington based U.S. National Climatic Data Centre today.
The global temperature was 0.62 degrees Celsius above the average of the last century. That is the same as the record year 2005.
Despite a cold winter in Europe and in America it was just very hot in many places like Russia and Pakistan. From mid June to mid August an unusually warm jet stream blew from western Russia down to Pakistan.
This led to a heat wave lasting two months in Russia, where many fires were created. It also led to enormous floodings in Pakistan.
The data from the Centre go back to 1880.
